FINAL CHANCE TO SAVE THE WELLS!
The consultation on the planning application for the site of the former Wells Community Centre ends on 20th February.
This is our final chance to fight for our community - we can’t let this go.
This is the council’s project, it’s their land, their specification and they have complete control to reverse this decision. We stand to lose a vibrant multi-purpose community centre needed to serve a rapidly growing and ageing population. The proposed alternative is 23 flats plus an unworkable, token community space that cannot serve the needs of the wider community.
COUNCIL MYTHS BUSTED
The Wells Centre wasn’t financially viable...
The truth is that the Residents Association-run Council mismanaged the centre.
Government Housing Targets forced its closure...
The Secretary of State for Housing is on record saying this isn’t true.
Demand for the centre isn’t there...
The Council recognises that Community Centres are over-subscribed and we will need more of them.
